FEARLESS FUN USING WATERCOLORS OR ACRYLICS -
BEGINNER'S AND INTERMEDIATE ONLINE CLASS
This class is for both watercolors and or acrylic painters.If you choose to use acrylics you will want to have available:
Bring one pad of 140 lb Strathmore watercolor paper ( most of art will be done on paper) But if you want to work on a canvas also please use 8 x 10 canvases as this will be the same size as the photo printouts listed on line.
PAINT COLORS: Please choose colors from either the the acrylics list or the watercolor's list depending upon which paint you want to use.
Should you decide to create mixed media art and use both watercolors and acrylics you will want to pick a selection of colors from both mediums.
If you want to use ACRYLICS: please bring the following colors of acrylic paints
I recommend using GOLDEN FLUID or SPOKANE ART SUPPLY'S PRIVATE LABEL
ACRYLIC PAINTS but any other quality acrylic tube paint works well such as Liquitex .
Quinacridrone Crimson (also known as Anthraquinoid Red) – a cool red
Pyrrole red (a warm red)
Pthalo Blue (a green shade—also known as phthalo blue) – a cool blue
French Ultramarine (a warmer blue color)
Hansa Yellow (or Lemon Yellow) – a cool yellow
Diarylide Yellow (a warm yellow)
Titanium White
Carbon Black
If you want to use watercolors in this class, please bring the following:
I recommend using Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith, QOR
Pleasehave available one small paint tube of each color of watercolor paints:
Permanent Alizarin Crimson (also known as Anthraquinoid Red) – a cool purplish red
Scarlet Lake (also known as vermillion) a warm red that leans to an orange/red
Winsor Blue (a green shade—also known as phthalo blue) – a cool blue with hints of green
French Ultramarine (a warmer purplish/ blue color)
Hansa Yellow (or Lemon Yellow) – a cool yellow
New Gamboge Yellow (a warm yellow with hints of orange)
BRUSHES for either medium: 1 acrylic taklon round brush - my favorite sizes are 10,12 or 14
+ 1” wide flat brush
MEDIUMS: for all acrylic classes please bring one jar of Matte or Gloss Medium - I recommend using Golden mediums but there are other brands such as Liquitex available. And for doing collage bring a heavy body medium ( the type that is in a jar not a liquid in a bottle)
PALETTE: 1 plastic palette with large mixing areas. I recommend the Mastersons Palette or any WHITE large- plastic or foam plate/tray suitable for mixing paints on.
WATER CONTAINERS: You will need : Two jars or plastic containers for water.
OTHER ITEMS: You may want to have some kind of table cover ie, plastic table sheet, table cloth, large trash bag anything to keep your paint area clean. Please bring a 4B (soft) drawing pencil and an eraser.
FOR THE INTERMEDIAT ACT 2 class we will also be exploring paper collage. If you choose to want to add collage to your artwork you will also need to have available:
The definition of collage, which is a French word refers to the art of cutting out and applying different types of papers or objects to another surface. one can use newspaper clippings or bits and pieces of found papers or....?
I like to use a thin tissue type paper to collage with. I use a type of paper referred to as Japanese lace papers, which are available at Spokane Art Supply. Some have patterns and some have fiber running through.
You can also use plain white tissue paper like you find in the gift wrapping department of your local supermarket or even newspaper clippings.
You will also need a product to adhere your papers to the 140lb watercolor paper of canvases.
I recommend
A Golden or Liquitex thick heavy body medium ( the type that is in a jar not a liquid in a bottle)
