On this particular day, last year, I had the pleasure of introducing one of my students to both the beauty of Spokane's "Duncan gardens" at Manito park and the creative fun to be had, when setting up one's art supplies in front of a garden on a beautiful and sunny day!

22 x 17 poured watercolor, sumi ink, fluid acrylics.
Living in Spokane, WA, I have been frequently inspired by the Manito Park and Duncan Gardens. This painting is the latest in a series about painting and inspiration.
In this work I chose to use some unusual techniques to create a new style to express myself and the story I am telling.
Suminagashi is an ancient form of paper marbling that uses sumi ink and creates wonderful black and white patterns and shapes. In this painting I began by first using "suminagashi" on my 140lb watercolor paper, which was followed by pouring a variety of transparent watercolors. My final steps included using fluid acrylics to "tie together" my story about being inspired by Duncan Park at Manito Gardens. NFS
This painting will be available for sale spring of 2025

This watercolor painting is the second chapter of a series that I am calling "Ghost Story". This series of watercolors on paper have been inspired by a trip last year to Natchez, Mississippi.
In this work , I combined photos of an old building, called the " Mount Locust Stand" which is now part of the Natchez Trace highway National Park. As I walked around the old residence , I imagined the life and experiences of the woman who lived and managed this old "stand" .

Chapter 1- Swinging from past to present"
17 x 22 watercolor and fluid acrylics
While travelling through the Town of Natchez, MS I came upon one of the finest antebellum homes of this town. Known now as the Monmouth Inn.
In creating this work of art, my goal was to capture the essence of how our pasts interconnect with the present. I tasked my self to create a "story" that would capture the beautiful architecture, while telling a tale about long ago. I wondered , as I stood before this building if previous tenants continued to walk the grounds . Were they enjoying the landscape that was created when they were alive, as much as I was admiring the now towering trees planted in the past and still standing in my present.
Does the past swing into the present? I think it does... $1,500

Every year for 5 years this beautiful orchid has sat in a bowl of water and given me these gorgeous pink blooms. I have painted it using acrylics. But this spring, I wanted to do something a little different. So, I decided to use only watercolors and I snapped a picture of the flower looking down on it. I liked the abstracted look of this photo and decided I should try creating a work from this image.
