Please bring to workshop:
PAPER : Arches, Fabriano Strathmore 140 lb. Cold press paper,
2 full 22 x 30 sheets will do. Please cut full sheets into 6 quarter size 11 x 15” and save 1 half sheet 15 x 22 for our finished artwork. If an artist wants to do their finished artwork on canvas , then bring a 16 x 20 acrylic primed canvas, if desired.
3 sheets of Japanese “ Masa” Paper to create unique collage papers
Instructor will provide an assortment of other collage and lace papers for students to use.
PAINTING BOARDS : I recommend a 16 x 23 inch piece of “gator board” or any varnished ply wood board big enough to hold a quarter to a half sheet of paper.
PAINTS : Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smiths or any other brand of quality water colors and Golden Fluid, Liquitex or Spokane Art Supply’s acrylic paints will work.
SUGGESTED WATER -COLOR HUES :
PLEASE BRING AT LEAST 1 RED, 1 BLUE AND 1 YELLOW IN BOTH WC & ACRYLIC PAINTS
Ultamarine blue - These blues are all available as acrylics too with same name!
Phthalo Blue ( Red shade)
Scarlet Lake ( a warm-orangee-red) known as Pyrolle Red in Acrylics
Permanent Alizarin Crimson ( a cool purplish- red) + known as Quinacridrone crimson in acrylics
New Gamboge Yellow ( a warm- orangee-yellow)+ Known as Diarylide Yellow in acrylics
Hansa Yellow ( a cool yellow) .+ available as acrylics too with same name!
Titanium white & carbon or lamp black in the Acrylics paint only
In addition, artists are welcome to bring any other colors that attract them I also enjoy using The Iridescent and metallic colors , Which are also beautiful to work with.
1 jar Golden Acrylics Heavy Body Medium to be used for collage techniques.
I recommend any of the Golden Acrylic products.
1 jar of “FRISKIT” a masking fluid used to create a resist area , I recommend either Winsor & Newton’s brand of friskit or a product called “White Mask”. “friskit” pick up.
BRUSHES : To Wet the paper we will use a wide 1" flat brush. Also bring assorted sizes of “round water color brushes” I generally use sizes 8,12 &14. A CHEAP small “round “ brush to apply friskit in a size 4 or 6 works.
PALETTE : A white plastic palette with extra deep wells will do . I like the Robert Wood Palette for watercolors and the Masterson sealed palette for acrylics. White Plastic or coated paper plates work well also.
WATER CONTAINERS: 2 old jars or plastic containers for both clean water and to wash brushes in . Plus a spray bottle to spritz water and wet paper. Bring 8 clear plastic cups for pouring paint or I save and reuse old plastic honey or Catsup bottles for my pourable paint , Or you can use medium size plastic bottles with small applicator tip for pouring/squirting paints – this works well when travelling if bottles have tops.
OPTIONAL ASSORTED OTHER MATERIALS : a roll of paper towels, sponges either natural or man made,
old tooth brushes for splattering paint,
pencils, kneaded erasers,
Plastic wrap like “glad wrap”.
Scissors or xacto knife,
A brayer or spoon,
Chop stick,
Paper towels,
Nylon gloves,
Zip lock bag for small collage paper bits and pieces,
garbage bag
We will take a mid day lunch break so a sack lunch & beverage are two items you may want to have with you.
